CRE Notes — The Bible

Subtopic: The Bible as a Guide (for age 10, Kenya)
What is the Bible?

The Bible is God’s special book. It has stories, teachings and songs. Christians read it to know God and learn how to live. The Bible has two parts: the Old Testament (stories before Jesus) and the New Testament (about Jesus and His followers).

How the Bible guides us (simple reasons)
  • It teaches right from wrong (for example, do not steal, tell the truth).
  • It shows how to love God and love other people.
  • It gives stories that show good choices (like helpers and heroes).
  • It helps in prayer and making good decisions at home, school and church.
Examples for Kenyan children
  • If a classmate has no lunch, share your chapati or posho — the Bible teaches us to care for others.
  • If your friend cheats in a test, the Bible asks you to be honest. Tell the truth kindly.
  • Respect elders and listen to your parents and teachers — this is part of obeying God’s ways.
  • When you see a sick neighbour, visit or tell an adult. Jesus helped people who were suffering.
Short Bible stories that teach
  • Good Samaritan — teaches us to help people who are hurt, even if they are different from us.
  • David and Goliath — shows that trusting God helps us face big problems with courage.
  • Jesus and the children — Jesus loves children and says they are important in God’s kingdom.
How to use the Bible every day
  1. Read a small story or verse with a parent or Sunday school teacher.
  2. Ask, “What can I learn from this?” and think of one thing you can do today.
  3. Pray and ask God to help you do what the Bible teaches.
  4. Talk about the story at the dinner table or in a class.
Memory verse (easy)

“Love your neighbour as yourself.” — Matthew 22:39

(Say this verse each morning. Think of one kind thing to do.)
✝️
You can read the Bible in English or Kiswahili at home or church.
Short activity (5–10 minutes)
  1. Pick one short story from your Sunday school book.
  2. Draw a picture of the most important part.
  3. Write one sentence: “I will...”, for example “I will share my snack with a friend.”
Questions to think about
  • What did you learn from today’s story?
  • How will you show love to someone at school tomorrow?
  • Who can you ask for help to read the Bible (a parent, Sunday school teacher, or pastor)?
Short prayer you can say

“Dear God, thank you for your book, the Bible. Help me to learn from it and do what is right. Help me to love others. Amen.”

Tip: Read the Bible with your family in English or Kiswahili. Ask questions in Sunday school if something is not clear.
